We take seriously Jesus’ words, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs” (Matthew 19:14). We cherish children and the gifts and energy they bring into worship. Every Sunday morning has a message just for them, and the adults are ecstatic to listen in!
We also have a variety of ways that we engage and celebrate children over the course of the year:
Sunday School
Children who are age 4 through grade 6 can attend Sunday School, where they have fun learning Bible stories, playing games, singing song, and making crafts. Sometimes the fun spills into worship, where the kids get to use their gifts in singing special music or performing plays. Sunday school starts mid-September on Rally Sunday (see calendar) and end on Mother’s Day. Some Sundays will not have Sunday School, mostly likely aligning with breaks from school.
- Melo Sunday School – 10:00am, after worship
- OSL Sunday School – 9:30am, before worship
Gifting of Bibles
We are happy to place in the hands of children the Holy Scriptures by gifting third grade children with Bibles. This happens during worship. If your child is older than third grade and does not have a Bible, please call the church office so we can make sure they receive this wonderful gift.
First Communion Classes
We prepare children to receive the sacrament of communion when they are in fifth grade. We believe teach is important before receiving so the sacrament will be respected and cherished for the gift it is. Children attend classes once a week in April and receive first communion on the first Sunday in May. Details on dates will be given closer to the time of instruction. If you are unsure if your child is on the list to receive instruction, please contact the church office.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Over the summer, we host a four-day, fun-filled VBS program for children age 4 to grade 6. Parents who desire their younger children to attend the program, as well, may bring them if they stay to participate with them. Click the bubble below to see specifics about this year’s upcoming VBS and to register.
